fledgling city burdened by social, economic and civil
strife amidst the most heavily concentrated number
of professional athletes in the world. Since the late
1960’s, when Flint, Michigan was at its zenith with
automobile production ( as it was the birth place of
the automobile and home to the General Motors
Corporation), deindustrialization and an increase in
drug use, crime and poverty has cast the city on a
world stage.
With four (4) High Schools Flint continue to produce
the most prolific athletes (on a per capita basis) the
world has ever seen. Over the course of their career
they usually return to their community to "give back".
The athletes have overcome tremendous odds in
life. Now confronted with institutional resistance
and resentment of their successes, they persevere
as their desire to contribute to the youth outweigh
obstacles associated with petty jealousy, race and
sports politics.
